About Jo and The Saltpot Studio

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and finding out a little more about myself, my work and my studio.

I am a predominantly a nature and landscape focused artist, based in Fishbourne, West Sussex.

On leaving secondary education in 1988, I completed a four year course in Art and Design along with a teaching qualification at the University of Warwick, graduating with a first class degree. They were four wonderfully productive years for me artistically and I very much missed the challenge of exhibitions and sharing my work with others when I left.

Many years later, having enjoyed a rewarding career in Education, I have come full circle, back to my creative roots. I have time now to focus on art again and now offer the chance to guide others in their artistry through my art groups at my new workspace, The Saltpot Studio.

 I gain a huge amount of satisfaction in studying landscapes and the nature within them. I enjoy creating joyful pieces with a strong sense of line, colour and pattern. My garden is a rich source of inspiration for me and from it, I draw many creative references . There is often a charm and romance to what I choose to paint and art references which influence my ideas include the Arts and Crafts artists, amongst many others.

I have nearly always lived near the sea and love the blues, greens and greys of the sky or water. Living in Fishbourne, situated on an atmospheric tidal creek, brings new artistic opportunities to explore.

About The Saltpot Studio

My idea of heaven has always been to have my own studio – somewhere that I can spread out my materials and work in peace! I have finally achieved that goal, having created a wonderful haven, The Saltpot Studio, at the end of my garden.

The Saltpot Studio is where I create my own work and I also welcome small, regular groups along on a weekly basis to develop their own art practice. I also hold one-day workshops here which offer a variety of exciting creative experiences held throughout the year.

With a background in teaching and education, I gain a huge amount of pleasure in meeting people and helping them to enjoy creating art of their own.
